The No-Fail Approach to Soliciting Individual and Corporate Gifts

Atlanta

Learn best practices for approaching individual and corporate donors.

Free
90 minutes

In this crippling recession, nonprofits are faced with having to raise more money with less resources and becoming more creative in their fundraising techniques. If it’s not already, individual and corporate gift funding should be a significant source of income for your nonprofit. This course will teach you how to take the best approach in soliciting these gifts.

Learn:

  • The necessary information you should gather before every Ask, including prospect research, their motivation to give and analysis of your own attitude in asking.
  • The art of donor cultivation – tried and true methods in "softening" a prospect for the Ask.
  • Steps in making the actual Ask – how to determine the who, when, where and how to present the solicitation. Also, specific questions that should have an answer before the prospect is ever approached.
  • Important follow-up after the Ask.

Presenter: Betsy Baker, President, The Grant Authority

Betsy Baker is president of the Grant Authority, a web-based enterprise that offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced grant writers tools to succeed in their grant writing endeavors. She offers insight on grant prospect research, tips on preparing organizations in becoming "grant ready", and presentation of grant writing training courses. She also offers a step-by-step guide on how to become a grant writing consultant.

Ms. Baker has almost twenty years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Some of her career highlights include serving as Regional Associate Director for the American Heart Association and Director of Development for a multi-hospital system in Alabama where she was responsible for implementation of a corporate donor giving program and solicitation of major gifts. She has spent the past eight years as a grant writing consultant and has helped raise approximately $10 million in grant funding for deserving organizations.
