11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Presenter: Tom Adams
Leader transition is inevitable. Larger nonprofit organizations rely on a team of leaders - managers and board leaders - to achieve mission results. Most organizations pay some attention to leader development and leader transitions. Time and money constraints often limit this attention and as a result limit the capacity and sustainability of the organization. This practical session for executives and senior managers of larger nonprofit organizations (budgets over $1-2 million) offers proven paths that other nonprofit leaders of similar organizations have taken to increase attention to leader development and leader transitions.
This round table discussion will include a short presentation and group discussion of best practices in nonprofit succession planning, talent management as adapted from the for profit sector, and leader development. The session will conclude with a discussion of leader self-care and options for next actions by participating executives. This session will draw from Tom's book, The Nonprofit Leadership Transition and Development Guide, published by Jossey-Bass/Wiley in April, 2010.
